Following Saturday’s governorship election, the European Union Election Observation Mission in Nigeria has issued a new statement, revealing what they observed during the poll.


In the statement that was signed by the Union’s chief election observer, Barry Andrews, the mission disclosed that Nigerians have a great appetite for democracy and we’re willing to partake in various civic duties but however, the expectations of Nigerians were not met in many parts of the country. They say the witness voter apathy because many Nigerians were disappointed by the political elites and also INEC.
Speaking on, the EU mission said the INEC made some corrections from presidential election as voting materials largely arrived polling units earlier this time around but still, INEC lacks transparency. They say the election was marred by multiple incidents of voter intimidation and vote buying and thuggery.

The statement further stressed that the freedom of movement and assembly during the election were largely respected but that some state governors made has of executive order which negatively affected campaigns prior to the election.
